Take Your Team To New Heights With Team Building

Do you invest in the morale of your team throughout the entire year or is it something that just happens once a year when you have your Year End Function and even then are you team building or do you just get everyone together take them for lunch or have a braai and a couple of drinks at the office?  And when the day is over you say to yourself “Ok until next year”.

Do you believe that the morale of your team is extremely important, not only for each team member but also for the organization?

The reason why team building is so important is because it brings people together by encouraging collaboration and teamwork.  One of the most important reasons why organizations need to do team building is to get better results, yes team building can improve any organizations results.  By implementing bi-monthly planned team building that are fun and motivational, teams build skills like communication, planning, problem-solving and conflict resolutions.  You might think that it’s a waste of time or even that it is very expensive, firstly it definitely is not a waste of your time and secondly there are so many team building activities that you can do that actually costs very little to no money.

Below 9 reasons why Leaders choose these Team Building Ideas that impact their team:

  1. Teamwork and great for overall performance:

There is nothing better than getting a team to work together outside of their “normal” daily tasks.  In a lot of the team building exercises different employees need to work together as one to do a task they learn to work together and rely on each other to succeed.  This is not only good for their morale but great for the overall performance of the organization.  A motivated and focused team is a successful team.

  1. Helps with the improvement of processes and procedures:

During team building there are steps that the team needs to follow and if they don’t follow the steps they won’t succeed.  These steps require team members to read, listen, understand and then execute.  They need to rely on each other for the information and also need to work together to follow each step to the tee ensuring their success.  Although you might not believe this it will help them follow processes and procedures in the future.

  1. Fun, motivation and team spirit:

Team building exercises aren’t all about following steps there are quite a few of the exercises that are very simple and a good laugh.  This is also very good for the morale of the team as it makes everyone relax and not be in a serious environment the whole time.  They can let their hair done and just be themselves.

  1. Facilitates better Communication and how to handle conflict:

As most of the team building exercises have steps that needs to be followed this is great for team communication as together they need to discuss and follow the steps to succeed.  This is also excellent for the handling of conflict because there are a few exercises that require more “thinking”, exercises where everyone might not agree on how to do certain exercises, but they need to get the exercise done so they will learn how to handle conflict and work together.

  1. Promotes Creativity:

Team building brings out creativity in team members who never even knew that they had a creative bone in their body.  Its important to include a few creative team building exercises just to get each employees creative juices flowing.  You will be amazed at the creativity of some of the team members.

  1. Collaboration and problem-solving skills:

Team members with different ideas, collaborating and working together solving problems is exactly what the organization should strive towards.  The key is to put people together in smaller teams who don’t always work together so that they can get to know each other.  You aim is to get a united organization and by doing this you will achieve this.

  1. Good healthy competition:

Oh there will definitely be competition during the team building, every smaller team will want to win and it will build such an amazing bond between the team members.  You will also notice how the team members from the smaller teams continue interacting with each other even after the team building exercise has finished.

  1. Breaks the ice between team members:

The key in team building is to get employees from different teams to work together.  As society has it people who are familiar and comfortable with each other always flock together so if you split up the “regulars” and put them in new teams this boosts the morale of everyone and new bonds are formed.

  1. Improves Leadership Skills:

It is during these team building exercises that you can see the leadership skills in each employee.  You can see who the employees are that take charge and what their leadership skills are.  You might just be surprised who takes the lead and how good their leadership skills actually are.

Team building is so important to the success of your organization, again it might seem as a waste of time to you, but from the above you can surely see the benefits to the organization.

You need to work on your team all the time, their well-being and morale must not be a once a year thought.  Building an employee centred organization is what a lot of organizations are failing to do and as a result of this they are not reaching their full potential.
